Choosing a Therapist
Choosing a Therapist
The research is conclusive: The #1 factor in successful therapeutic outcomes is the relationship between the client and therapist.
Feeling relaxed, comfortable, safe and accepted with your therapist are necessary conditions for making progress in therapy. Do you like your therapist? Do you feel they really get you? Do they speak in a straightforward, caring way that makes sense to you? Do you feel confident that they have the inner strength, experience and understanding to be effective? Do they continue to study and train in the latest research in their field? Have you begun to notice positive changes in your life after the first few months of therapy?
Doing an initial free face-to-face consultation with a prospective therapist to make sure you’re a good fit is a really good use of your time. If you think I might be the right therapist for you, I encourage you to contact me to schedule a free 20-minute in-person consultation at my office in north central Austin.
Working With Me
My approach is active, engaged, encouraging, curious, creative, and compassionate. While our work together will be collaborative, I take responsibility for making sure our time together stays focused on experiences and interactions that will help you move closer to your goals.
Therapy with me will feel like….
…the unconditional acceptance and compassionate understanding you’ve always longed for from others (and yourself)
…what you experienced with your favorite teacher, coach or mentor who inspired you to do your best work: challenging, stimulating and instructive
…a place in which you are safe; you can trust yourself to handle whatever may come up
...those all-too-rare “aha!” moments in your life when you’ve been able to fully access your intuition and act from a place of clarity and authenticity within
…you’re being gently pushed out of your comfort zone sometimes – an important prerequisite for growth and healing
…you’re more connected than ever to your emotions but less negatively affected by them
…you’re becoming stronger, more empowered and more connected in your relationships, acquiring insight and skills that can make your life better
…you look forward to coming to our sessions because you get to completely focus on yourself, the most fascinating subject there is!
We'll work collaboratively: I'll provide guidance, support, and integrated, research-supported therapeutic approaches. You'll provide all the rest. Remember, you were born with the ability to heal yourself; my job is simply to help get that natural process up and running again.
